Poron Foam Characteristics

Poron is a high-density polyurethane foam that’s used for sealing, insulation, and cushioning. This durable, open cell foam has strong compression set resistance, which makes Poron gaskets a good choice for shock absorption and impact protection.

Poron foam does not contain plasticizers or residual chemicals and will not contaminate devices or become brittle. Inherently flame retardant, Poron gaskets meet UL flammability standards and can resist many petroleum products, automotive fluids, and chemicals.

Grades and Applications for Poron Gaskets

Poron polyurethane foam is available in grades ranging from extra soft to very firm. Medical and antimicrobial grades of this microcellular urethane foam are also available. In general, sealing with Poron foam improves as compression and gasket material width increase.

Applications for Poron seals include the automotive, communications, and electronics industries. In the medtech industry, Poron gaskets are used in medical devices and handheld LCD instruments. Other applications for Poron gaskets include industrial products and sporting goods.

How Poron Gaskets are Manufactured

Interstate Specialty Products manufactures custom gaskets from Poron foam sheets, rolls, or finished spools. Ask us about our die cutting, digital knife cutting, and cleanroom capabilities. Because Poron has a skin on both sides, PSAs are applied easily and Poron can be used with a number of adhesives.

Interstate Specialty Products can die cut Poron sheets to exacting tolerances, and supply Poron gaskets with fabric supports and adhesive backings.
