NATURAL RUBBER GASKETS

Interstate Specialty Products supplies custom rubber gaskets cut from natural rubber for medical and scientific, electronics, and industrial applications.

Natural rubber gaskets provide superior dynamic sealing. They have a low level of damping and good low temperature properties, and mate well with metal surfaces. Natural rubber (NR) seals also resist tear and abrasion, and can resist shear and compression for long periods in the absence of tension.

When subjected to tension, however, natural rubber gaskets may experience ozone cracking. That’s why Interstate Specialty Products can also recommend synthetic rubber gaskets, if that’s what your application requires. Ask us about all of your choices for gasket material, and we’ll recommend the right elastomer.

Specialty gaskets made of natural rubber may withstand light contact with some chemicals, but oils and solvents will cause a loss of physical strength. Often, NR latex is compounded with other rubbers to impart improved properties. The type of solvents and the type of rubbers determine the rate of chemical attack.

Interstate Specialty Products supplies long-lasting, cost-effective natural rubber gaskets for applications that require good resistance to abrasion and gouging. Although NR has relatively poor aging properties, advantages include low heat buildup during flexing. Gasketing with adhesive backings are also available.

For shock resistance and dynamic loading, natural rubber gaskets are often the right choice. To learn how our silicone gasket manufacturing capabilities can support your application, and whether die cutting or digital knife cutting is recommended, contact us on-line or call (800) 984-1811.
